I had a crush on him
He was the sun and the moon and the stars in the sky
He was everything I dreamed him to be
I’d always been a flower on the wall
So I did what I could for him to notice me
I spruced and preened and plucked and tanned
I batted my eyelashes and changed my style
And he noticed me, he did I can say
But it was not enough for him to stay
For more than the fleeting moment when he grasped my hand
And for that moment my heart leapt up, my world became alive
He moved on to brighter lands
Leaving me with a memory so many moons ago
Of a solitary moment when he noticed me
Took my hand in his own
And then let it go

…. leaving you crushed? Beautiful and nostalgic

Yes, totally leaving me crushed, even many years later. Thank you for reading and commenting ❤

A subject oft used, a story oft told, but rarely half as well put as you have! The letting go hands at the very end is so very emotive, I can picturise the moment.

It was a moment that was so sweet to me, but then quickly turned bittersweet when I realized that is all I would ever get. Thank you so much for your kind words, and for reading and commenting.

I was just ruminating on a similar crush from my youth. Sigh.

Its a touching poem. But you know what? The great thing about such incidents is that they make us stronger. You may crave but you know after all that you have treaded an unknown way, and now that you are past it you know you have learned one more chapter of life. May sound philosophic.
But there’s a thing that I believe in-whatever happens happens for our own good. I’ll be happy if you find truth in what I say.
