We waited for you
And as each train steamed by
We held our breath
Hoping that this would be the one
Until our hope lay dead
In the very tracks that had taken you
Away from where you belong
Man this is old soul….. strong poetry, just made me see dozens, maybe hundreds of soldiers kissing their honeys at the old train sides of WWII….. going to a new place,… somewhere freedom lost its place…. So many things with so little, so much love, heartbreak…. Other families gettin’ on that train, cattle cars – no room to sit down, all their belongings gone…. Run out in the night, neighbors forced to hide inside – don’t rock the boat, yeah, don’t rock that train…. Whistle blowin’, never coming home again….. awesome…. tragic…… life…. death… good job young poet…..
It was so beautiful and sad. Takes me back to my hometown under the shade of my people’s love. Thank you for sharing 🙂

Lovely. Poignant. Hope falls short of the heart’s expectations.
