Naivety

Sometimes I think nothing shocks me anymore. But I have just been shocked over something that is perhaps quite common. I’ve spent two weeks alternating between technical problems (which one do we choose today?) This has kept me at work until just before 7pm, a few minutes ago. And as I exited the building and passed the coffee shop at the entrance, there were signs stating a private party is being held. There were men standing around with drinks in their hand, and topless. half-dressed-as-Santa, ladies mingling amongst them. In my local coffee shop! My eyes nearly shot out my head. What! A well known waiter was at the entrance of the building, and I couldn’t help but express my reaction. How can these ladies do that? Entertain drinking men whilst wearing nothing? Making themselves an object? And he just shrugged his shoulders, men do it as well. I’m sure they do! Except I’ve never been across it, myself.

And as I walked towards the bus pondering this situation, I was reminded of all the problems I’ve been stuck on for the past two weeks, a situation which often defines my life. And an unwelcome thought popped into my head, surely prancing around naked would be an easier way to make money? I have to go home and think about issues I don’t know how to solve. One week before Christmas. And not only that, study for and re-sit an exam I failed by two questions last week. Yes, I’m totally the last person who should be judging others for their decisions.

  1. It is a crazy world we live in Vonita!! I’m not a prude by any stretch of the imagination, but you have got to be a certain type of person to flaunt your private parts to strangers for money, and even though it may be a simple way to get money for Christmas, I don’t see you as that type of person 🙂

    1. Thanks Andy, I was surprised by how taken aback I was! Perhaps because it was so unexpected, I was just minding my own business leaving my work day and still in my work environment. One of the ladies was standing with the group of men, they all had drinks in their hands, and she was smiling and conversing with them, with her whole top exposed, free view for all. The thought of it makes me feel so sad!

      1. It is sad Vonita, both for the women themselves, to be treated as objects, rather than real people with feelings. It’s also sad that some men get pleasure out of such things, I’m sure most of the guys there would be married or have girlfriends, and to me they are being unfaithful by enjoying being in the company of these women! I think I’m just getting too old fashioned in my old age! LOL! 🙂

      2. Old-fashioned is good I reckon, I like to think I’ve outgrown my conservative convent education, but I think it runs too deep! And I agree with the unfaithful part, I would feel uncomfortable if it was my partner standing there. So let me count my blessings on that one! My husband was at home cooking dinner 😊

  2. Once, in a house in the house at the beginning of a block in are city I saw a guy taking pictures with 4 model type women in skimpy bikinis. I was thirteen or fourteen at the time and I thought besides being rich this guy doesn’t seem to be much of a catch. He came across as slimy and grabby with the women. They didn’t look thrilled to be there despite probably getting paid for it. I was biking by and my brother who was four years younger didn’t think much of the guy either.
Your story seems a bit more revealing as the woman was topless but I kind of feel that way about the men who enjoy these women, they are slimy. I know all men look but it is another thing to have a woman half naked on your lap in public. I hope the lady was getting paid extremely well. I imagine after awhile you just swallow how grossed out you are and do your job. I don’t know you but you don’t seem like the type of women and neither am I lol. I think you are better off not objectifying yourself. The right people see what’s good about you and don’t just see the twins lol. Take care,

    1. Thank you for sharing this! There were a few ladies, I think they may have been acting as waitresses, and serving drinks etc. What I don’t understand is what kind of company organizes a party like that, unless perhaps it was a private event and not a company hosted one? I think it is quite common here for bucks parties if (that’s what they are called, the event before a man gets married), a cultural thing perhaps, quite accepted in society. But odd for me! My husband never had a bachelor party so missed out on having one himself. And he’s never been to any that I know of, it would make me feel uncomfortable, maybe I’m too old-fashioned!

      1. We call them Stags or Stagettes for the lady. I have been to many Stagettes but mostly we just drink, go to the comedy club, go to the horse races, have a strip aerobics or pole dancing class, have dinner, play games at the bar or before, and go to the bar to dance and drink (a combination of 2or 3 of those events). You would think that the guys would have a stripper or go to strippers but honestly, most of them just watch movies, play pool and drink at the bar, play PlayStation or some type of video games, dodge ball tournaments, or some sports type event. In some ways the guys party’s are tamer then the Stagettes lol. But I know some guys do go to the strip club. We are 18 here when we can drink legally so both young women and men seem to go to the strip clubs at first but get tired out of them. When I was 18 my friend held money over my head and this stripper who was good looking but covered in oil ground against me and danced. I was disgusted. Although, I have seen The Thunder from Down Under the Aussie stripper show in Vegas and it is fun with a bunch of girls. I feel sorry for strippers though who are women it is different with them. We have a coin called a Toonie worth $2 and guys would fling those at the stripper and try to get it down her top. I thought it was degrading. That’s my experience with that sort of thing. For an indirect office party at a cafe it seems like a weird thing both because of the establishment it is held at and because it is work and you should be professional. But I don’t know how it is there. Maybe this happens in Canada too. Take care

  3. I guess the only thing that surprises me is that you were able to view this as you left the building. That’s a dangerous prospect on many different levels.
I never try to judge how or why people make a living but it is sad these women chose this path, but to each their own. My guess is some of these ladies picked up additional money as the night wore in or ended. One usually follows the other.
So how did you feel going back to your coffee shop the next day?..:)

    1. The owners may have hired out the venue for the evening and not known the details. The shop is in our building and there are glass windows facing the foyer. That is how I managed to see, and I was leaving work late (7pm). Truth be told, it may be quite a common and acceptable means of entertainment in Australia (I could be wrong), so have got over my shock and horror of it! I haven’t been back as yet as it was on Friday, and I only go back on Tuesday.

  4. I guess it depends on how some folks see it. Some women may have nothing that their only recourse is to go naked to earn money, specially if they have a sick baby or family to support. But being topless is not that bad, some women in other countries go topless or naked just for the fun of it in “nude beaches”! Hahaha!

    1. Yeah, my husband is concerned at my over-interest in this topic. There may be a ‘nudie’ hidden in me somewhere, hence all the interest! I sent the pdf, let me know if you don’t receive it 🙂
