In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Out of Your Reach.”
I went shopping with my daughter the other day. I was looking for some dresses for her. She saw a pair of dungarees and asked me straight away, please can I get these? My immediate reaction was no, I’m not here to buy those, I’m looking for dresses. Another time. As we walked away, she said to me quietly, I’ve asked before and you always say another time, but there is never another time. It stopped me in my tracks. I thought to myself good point. I decided to change my mind and said to her okay, let’s go back. I bought them for her, and she wears them now all the time! And they look so cute on her! I told her on the way back, she really twisted my arm, but I suppose that’s what mothers are for. I don’t have a mother whose arm I can twist, so good for her!

I love this! So true isn’t it!? My kids will call me out on things too “mom you said that last time” there’s something fun when you just do it! I love this post 😊💗💗

Thank you! I think we can spend so much time saying no, it is good sometimes to listen to their requests and be reasonable about it! I’m really glad I changed my mind, she looks so cute in them! 😀

When I was a young girl of about thirteen my Mom said it was time for me to buy my own clothes (besides coats and shoes that were needed). That was difficult because I didn’t make a lot of money from allowance so most of my money came from bdays and Christmas time. But every once in awhile until I was in University, I could convince my Mom to buy something for me – a pretty shirt here, a pair of gold sandals there. So, I think your daughter is lucky to have a Mom who will sometimes buy her clothes. She probably really appreciates it! Shopping is a special time for moms and daughters. Great post.

Thank you for sharing these thoughts. That was quite a big responsibility from the age of 13! My daughter is only nine so I still need to buy her clothes. I had already bought her casual clothes a few weeks back and the dungarees were expensive (a designer brand) so fitted more into the nice-to-have than need-to-have wardrobe, but glad I indulged!

I thought I was the only one who called them ‘dungarees’ (LOL) thank you for that. Glad your daughter truly found something she loved. Money well spent 😉

Lol! What else would they be called? Overalls? I’m not sure of their correct name, to me they are dungarees 🙂

I wasn’t be smart.. if its a jacket its a dungaree jacket, shirt – dungaree shirt. Some people say jeans or call it by their maker’s name.

Oh no, I didn’t think you were being smart! I was confused because I am referring to an item of clothing and not a brand (there is no Dungaree brand in South Africa or Australia), and don’t know what the correct name is, it is the shorts and top combined. My friend had referred to them as ‘overalls’, she is Australian so maybe that’s what they call them here? I can’t seem to paste an image in my comment, but here’s an example of what I’m referring to:
