72 Hours

72 hours
Is all you get
72 hours
To say goodbye
72 hours
To pray your prayers
72 hours
Of breathing air
72 hours
Is all you get
72 hours
Until shot dead

Thoughts are with Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran and their families, whose fate hangs in the hands of those in power. They did the crime, turned their lives around, and now must face the fine ❤

    1. Hi Elizabeth,

There is a story in Australia known as the “Bali 9”, a group of Australians caught in Bali ten years ago trying to smuggle drugs out of Indonesia, back to Australia and were caught through a tip off by the Australian police (who had been contacted by the youngest member’s father when trying to stop his son leaving Australia in the first place, as he suspected they may be up to something). The two main members (who have since been rehabilitated, and been contributing in a positive way in the Bali prison) were sentenced to death, and their executions (death by firing squad) have been looming for a couple of weeks. As soon as they are transferred to the execution island, they will be given 72 hours, blindfolded and led to a firing squad. I’ve included a link to a news article in my post. It has been front page news here for a few weeks, as their families are Australian, and live in Australia. At the moment they are saying final farewells, and waiting for their 72 hours notice to commence. Very sad.

    1. That’s a great idea. I think they know the country is supporting them, there has been so much media and political attention around it. Australia does not have the death penalty—of course, no-one supports their crime, but they have really turned their lives around in prison, and have made a great positive contribution to the prison in the past decade.
