A resounding YES from me! Remember: “It is if you say it is”! There is no governing body in haiku. Haiku is an art which transcends rules and regulations. There is no such nonsense in sculpture, painting, music or ANY of the arts. And we will have none in haiku. *grin* You’re doing great. Read a lot of good haiku, and write, write, write! 😛 ❤
In a word — No. 5-7-5 has to do with FORM…one form that got started in English-language haiku in its earliest days (1950’s) and was based on a misunderstanding of how the Japanese count haiku. You can Google 5-7-5 and read about it. Enough for now to say that you will write in many forms before you are through. 3-5-3, 4-6-4, and many other forms are seen routinely. If 5-7-5 seems natural to you, then do that! For a while! But don’t stagnate! Experiment! Play! Have fun! It’s YOUR haiku! Do with it what you will, and no one can say you are wrong. *g*
It was my pleasure! I love to teach haiku, and WordPress is the perfect place to do it! Hope to see more of your poetry/haiku soon! Life is good! And haiku makes it better!
LOL. Yes yes ! (though I’m no expert in haiku but I’ll consider it a haiku anyway, it is one in my eyes 😀 )
Btw I read your replies to my comments, but couldn’t reply for some reason, I think the comments are closed on your posts now or I don’t know why there wasn’t no replying option. just wanted you to know that I got your replies, Thank you so much 🙂
Hi Zee, thank you for all your comments! I have removed a selection of my poems as I am compiling a gift book (no haikus though!), and would like the material to be a surprise! So that is why perhaps maybe your couldn’t reply – the post may have been removed! Xx
