In my adopted city
While I slept
Lives were taken
Liberty stolen
Sydneysiders enter a world
Where coffee at a chocolate cafe
Could take your life away
Condolences to all involved
In my adopted city
While I slept
Lives were taken
Liberty stolen
Sydneysiders enter a world
Where coffee at a chocolate cafe
Could take your life away
Condolences to all involved
Unknowing reindeer
Light up suburbia
Glow with lights unrefined
While not too far away
Lights go out in a chocolate cafe
Hostages held captive
Hope to see another day
Thoughts be to those involved
And to family of same

I packed up my life
I packed up my home
Waved goodbye to family
Waved goodbye to friends
Started a new life
In a land of safety and peace
My heart bleeds
For those caught up
In my city under siege
In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Kick the Bucket.”
I never want to have my heart broken
I never want to feel the pain of losing a child
I never want to lose friendships with those
I have connected with
I never want to feel the turmoil of
Losing a job without another in place
I never want to grow old but know I must
I never want to have dark days like I’ve had before, and fear may resurface again
I never want you to turn your face from me
I never want to lose my faith, my hope, my trust
But if I lose any of these things
Lift me up and carry me
Because I never want to lose the heart of me
At times it is wise
For writers to sit on their hands
I have found how easy it can be to
Write without filter, without thought or care
Of the power my words may carry and travel
Throughout the globe, hearts connected
When damage is done, to try and amend
But the record is there, no
Backtracking can always be
Done, no apologies can
Always be made, and so
It is time for me to
Be wise, and to
Exercise some
Wisdom for
Words I
Would
Write
Because words have power
Beautiful stars
Twinkle at night
Dance in the shadows
Of the moonlight
(Collaboration poetry between my daughter and I – I wanted Glittering Stars, No Mom – Beautiful stars, ok)

Holiday
Attire
Kiss me, like you just did
Oh baby, do that to me once again
“do that to me one more time” captain and tennille
As your bright and tiny spark
Lights the traveller in the dark.
Though I know not what you are,
Twinkle, twinkle, little star.
