A fast approaching
Summer’s storm to wash away
The long pains of drought

Captured in petal
Leaves, drops of rain like morning
Dew, gems of water

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: My Favorite Things, Verse One

Heads in the Sand

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Bone of Contention.”

There is no cause
No need to fear
Of what the world holds dear
For climate change has no effect
On life on earth down here

Naught we can do
No steps to take
To try and halt the harm
So let us continue and ignore
The effects of change so far

Liberty

I walk in freedom of the light
When all around me men would fight
I will not fear, will not succumb
Will hold my peace, will not give in
My rest, my life, my liberty
Are mine from birth until the end

White Child in Africa

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Call Me Ishmael.”

I think I first realized something was wrong when our nextdoor neighbour, oom Piet Oberholzer, was murdered
I was about six years old then, and I never will forget when I realized
The perils of being a child of Africa would soon out-way the joys
Of being alive under the African sky
I knew in my heart that a choice would need to be made
One day of choosing to stay or to go
As fate would have it, when the day came to choose
I packed my bags, and with sadness in my heart
I left

Sanctuary

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Oasis.”

When the world becomes too much
And my shoulders feel too sore
I find a quiet spot snd sit alone
Until strength is found to carry on some more

I will be on retreat for the next four days (no internet access)
Will be back on Monday
Wishing you all the best till then
.

Sun Whipped

Your love in all its to and fros
Highs and lows
Is as sunburn after a day on the beach
The bliss and joy and fun in the sun
Burns the skin leaving welts of whippings so bad
And I wonder
What did I ever do to make you behave
And do the things you do, behave as you always do?

If ever there was anyone who didn’t deserve my love, well what can I say? It’s you

Lavender Fields

Innocent young woman with pink fairy dress in a springtime blueb

In fields of lavender and green
I feel my soul’s deep need of Thee
I close my eyes and allow all calm
To wash me clean and make me whole
