HeatWave

It’s summer

Right here in my part of the world

They say to celebrate – they being the heat cheerers, the sun lovers the summer

Worshipers

I hear cicadas calling their mates, a pleasant sounding continuous hum while

Birds in the distance call their mates too and summer seems to be

The time for

Mating

My skin is white, a distant remnant of that Scottish ancestry, European descendents
Scattered throughout the earth

I end up in Australia, in this summer, in this heat, in this wave of heat, and I retreat

Indoors.

The sea and sun and summer in Sydney is not for me.

I retreat to the shelter of indoors, where my skin is safe, and I close my eyes and listen.

The cicados continue their calls.

  1. Absolutely delightful. I felt every word. Where do you live now? I’m on the central coast of California in my motorhome. It’s lovely here. I hope you’re in a place where you feel safe, comfortable, and enchanted by nature.

My best to you, Carolyn Jaynes

    1. Hi Carolyn, wow sounds like you live in a peaceful place. I’m in Sydney Australia and we are in the middle of a heat wave 🥵 but it’s cooled down today! Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Hmmm, I feel you. I like the warmth, but it’s getting a bit too hot these days and I also hide indoors. We’ve been getting humidity which we’re not accustomed to inland. The weather is changing.
