The brutal truth is that
I view the landscape through
Romanticized spectacles
When the reality is an ocean
Removed from romance
In any shape or form
The brutal truth is that
I view the landscape through
Romanticized spectacles
When the reality is an ocean
Removed from romance
In any shape or form
A nightmare swallowed me
My drowning mother
I reached for her
I grabbed and pulled
She sank
I panicked
She was too far
My heart raced
I couldn’t breathe
She’s dying!
She’s dead.
I woke up
It’s her birthday next week
It was a dream – she is still alive
I will buy her a gift
So I bought her a gift
Which she never received
Because she was already
Dead.
When painful words are truth
When mirrors do not lie
When weaknesses are exposed
When defenses do not stand
When everything we did and know
Only brought us to a place of
Harsh reality
Then the only way forward
Is alone

Hold fast and never let go!
The only way to deal
With envy turning
Everything in its
Sight to shades of
Green, is to pierce
Through the deceipt
Of it, and to run
From it as fast
As you possibly can
So you may walk
In truth
Hey, you know what paradise is? It’s a lie
A fantasy we create about people and places as we’d like them to be
Charlene – I’ve Never Been To Me
What do we do
When we find out who we really are?
What do we say
When we realize we don’t like the person we’ve become
When can we say
About our dreams and desires and hopes
What can we dream
When we wish ourselves and lives away
What do we do
What can we say
What can we wish
What can we dream
?
In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Mix Tape Masterpiece.”
Hey, you know what paradise is?
It’s a lie, a fantasy we create about people and places as we’d like them to be
But you know what truth is?
It’s that little baby you’re holding, it’s that man you fought with this morning
The same one you’re going to make love with tonight
That’s truth, that’s love
Charlene – I’ve never been to me
Why do people lie?
Is it because they do not like the truth
Is it because they do not like the question
Is it because they do not like the answer
Is it because it is simply easier to explain
Is it because there is a fear of being judged
Is it because they are afraid of what might be
Is it because they are scared to tell the truth
Is it because it feels the safer option
Tell me, why did you lie to me?
When your path is dimmed
And no light ahead
Look up, my friend, look up
When hope has fled
And love is dead
Look up, my friend, look up
When overwhelmed—
Need a stepping stone
Look up, my friend, look up
When friends have gone
And you are alone
Look up, my friend, look up
Lift your eyes to see your truth
Allow the way to clear
For it is only by taking steps
Will you overcome your fear
