Of nature’s unfurling art –
My inspiration
Dripping like jewels
From life-giving arteries
Ripe red cherries blush
Hand so soft and tender
A mother’s loving touch
In a flash, mere blink of eye
Knife’s sharpened edge
Released the flow of blood
The floodgates burst wide open;
From the hand that nurture spread
In its place replaced
Pure anger
Flowing
Furious
Faster
Rushing
Gushing
Never
Stopping

Crimson paint is splashed across the crisp, clean fabric of a nation’s flag – the last works of a man before being tied to a cross and shot – the dripping of wet paint as red as the blood that flows through veins paints its picture without words, and as the canvas dries, the pumping of the blood throughout the body slows, until it eventually stops.
As red as the blood
Flowing through my beating heart,
Flames consume the tree
