Untangle
The driftwood wrapped around my heart
Intertwined and gnarled and twisted
Squeezing the goodness from my soul
But untangled and removed
Releases the rocks of turmoil, hate and strife
That have been kept captive – unwelcome guests
Making room for calm waters
Of love and joy and peace
To wash into my heart and soul and life
Cleansing, refreshing
Unhindered and free

Tercetonine
A new poetry form have I learned
Tercetonine is the name it has earned
Two lines that rhyme, and a third a leonine – sublime

Jozi Roads
Surviving the roads of
Johannesburg, or Jozi as it is
Lovingly named, by those who
Would bravely call the city their home
Is no small accomplishment, where
Drivers exceed the speed limits at will
And potholes randomly occur
With no band-aid in sight
Here is a glimpse of the roads in the
City I called home until the day arrived
When I flew away

Light the Fire
I have a friend
Not too young in age
But still so young in heart
My mind wonders – would love to know
What stories could she share
What lessons could she impart?
About the world, and how it was
When she was sixteen
Going on seventeen
In the year of 1932
Life Stories
Life stories are so
Very long to tell so I
Would not like to know
Any life stories
Of anyone who may be
Much older than twelve
Two Right Feet
In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Two Right Feet.”
I woke up this morning
With a pain in my chest
And a fear in my heart
That all’s not well, not well
The stress is rising
Panic is starting
I need to calm, I need to breathe
Just breathe okay, just breathe
In and out, and in and out
That’s all I have to do
I want to scream, I want to flee
I want to fly away
From this body, from my world
I want to run away
Close your eyes, just close them now
Now’s the time to pray
Morning Routine
In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Two Right Feet.”
Drink tea
In my favorite mug
Direct from Zimbabwe
Check I’m still alive
Give thanks in my heart
Write daily prompt
Drink coffee
Arise!
Is this even a poem?
(Yes, I do have tea
And then I have coffee
Trust me, you do not want me
Missing either one
In order to save time
As well as my left foot
And because he knows me so well
I have at times been offered
Tea and coffee together
Queued up ready to go
A little bit eccentric, no?
You have been warned!)
Skies of Blue
Doorbell
Ring the bell, and don’t be shy
If I be at home, and hear a sound
Will open the door, and show you around
Flowers From You
A flower for me
Flowers from you
For thirteen years
I have been your wife
😍❤️😘
