Futile

A drought in a foreign land

Wages war against an unsettled peace

While floods in an opposite corner

Drowns hope there was for

Honey

Sometimes

Drought is needed
To welcome rain

Sometimes storms rage
Revealing rainbow skies

Stretching across creation
Hope flickers bright

Thirst

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Ripped from the Headlines!.”

My thirst overwhelms
I crawl to a well
But the water is dried
I long for a drop of
Moisture on my tongue
But there is none
If water is life
Then we are dead

Waiting for the Rain

image

Scorched earth
Air heavy with
Fumes of thick smog
Heat rises from the
Dusty plainlands
Another day passed
Maybe tomorrow?
Once green shrubs
Thirst for the drops
To quench the drooping
Leaves, all of nature is
Quiet, still, wilting, tired
Waiting for the rain
