Circle of Five Haiku

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Circle of Five.”

If I had to choose
Five to be my company
My choices would be

My son for his great
Empathy, daughter for her
Passion, my husband

For his kindness, my
Mother-in-law and lastly
I would choose myself

Circle of Five

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Circle of Five.”

If I had to be the average of five people I would choose:

My husband for his kindness
My daughter for her passion
My son for empathy beyond his years
My mother-in-law who has sadly passed away, whose company I enjoyed greatly, and who accepted me as a daughter
And myself for authenticity, because who else can be me, but me?
And that makes five!

Thank you for reading!

Birthday

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Plead the Fifth.”

What question do I hate to be asked?

When is my birthday?

Because I have two.
The day on which I was born (25th April)
And the day on which all my paperwork is recorded (24th April)

I celebrate on the 24th *because that’s what all my documentation says*

But as my mother would remind me every year, she gave birth to me and it happened on the 25th.

Confused, much?

Breakfast in Bed

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Me Time.”

Every Saturday morning I read in bed. It is my time to read. I used to read a South African magazine called YOU (on my iPad because I can’t buy them in Sydney).

But now I read the Daily Prompt writers. With limited time I am not always able to read the other Daily Prompters, and my WordPress reader is filled with poetry. So Saturday morning is now reserved for Daily Prompt.

My very kind husband makes me tea when I wake up. My father used to bring me tea in bed every morning when I was a child. And when I married, my husband started doing the same. And then a short while later he makes Cappucino coffee for both of us. I am spoilt!

Thank you for reading!

P.S I am on AEST, so am already on Sunday morning

Pounding Heart

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Fight or Flight.”

My flight arrived
I could see a glimpse
But could not leave to go
My heart started pounding
My belly started twisting
My nerves could take no more
I closed my eyes and made a wish
And wished myself very
Far away from there

Three Roses

As you might have guessed already, roses are my favorite flower. There is nothing as perfect as a rose in full bloom. And as quickly it blooms, as quickly it fades. So catch it while you can!

If my husband had not named my daughter Julia while I was still on the operating table, she would have been named Rose. I settled for Julia Rose.

Wrap-around Porch

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “A Plot of Earth.”

image

I would build a home with a wrap-around porch, furnished with chairs and jugs of sparkling water with slices of lemon added (instead of lemonade).

I would sit on the porch and admire the scenery, and finish all my half read books. Because now that I blog, I ain’t never gonna finish any of them.

United States

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Tourist Trap.”

I was born in Africa
And met family in England
I farewelled my mother in Scotland
And danced in Hungary
I have worked in Germany
And holidayed in Fiji
I have lived in Australia
But I have never been to
The United States
Next stop!
With Canadian Rocky Mountains thrown in

Any travel suggestions?

I volunteer at a shelter
For mothers and children
That have fled their homes
The strength of will, their
Strength shines through
To these women, rebuilding
Their lives, I salute you
