Magical Tact

Worlds meeting worlds
Souls meeting souls
Connecting together
On this journey of life

If I may offend
If I may speak or write
Without diplomacy
Or magical tact

Don’t turn from me
Have empathy
For if I realise
What I may have said

I would feel remorse
Would want to make amends
Because your friendship
Means more to me than defence

The Language of Things

To my husband

A bicycle – because cycling
Bicycle magazines – because cycling
Bicycle helmet – because safety
Bicycle lights – to light up the night
Bicycle kit – because cycling
Water bottle – because hydration
Photo of smiling wife – because love

YAY!!!!

Guess what I am holding in my little hands
My baby, baby, baby
Personal edition for family
Just in time for Christmas joy
Passion through Poetry
I’m so happy I could shout it out loud!

Summer Night

Walking home and all I see
Are glitters and sparkles and fairy lights
Greeting me as I pass them by
I take a minute to greet them back
Feeling happy, feeling glad
That I have the freedom to go on my way
Walking home at night after a summer’s day

Half Mast Flags

Why do we have bridges?

To connect
To separate
To transport
To display to the world
The sorrow a city would feel
When one of its own are slain

Unsung Heroes

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Unsung Heroes.”

When my artist friend becomes famous
My claim to fame could be
I have a painting by her hand
From her hand as a friendship gift
Kindly given to me

He loves to sit and hear me sing,
Then laughing, sports and plays with me;
Then stretches out my golden wing,
And mocks my loss of liberty

Three Deaths

In my adopted city
While I slept
Lives were taken
Liberty stolen
Sydneysiders enter a world
Where coffee at a chocolate cafe
Could take your life away

Condolences to all involved

Reindeers and Hostages

Unknowing reindeer
Light up suburbia
Glow with lights unrefined
While not too far away
Lights go out in a chocolate cafe
Hostages held captive
Hope to see another day

Thoughts be to those involved
And to family of same

City Under Siege

I packed up my life
I packed up my home
Waved goodbye to family
Waved goodbye to friends
Started a new life
In a land of safety and peace
My heart bleeds
For those caught up
In my city under siege

Never

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Kick the Bucket.”

I never want to have my heart broken
I never want to feel the pain of losing a child
I never want to lose friendships with those
I have connected with
I never want to feel the turmoil of
Losing a job without another in place
I never want to grow old but know I must
I never want to have dark days like I’ve had before, and fear may resurface again
I never want you to turn your face from me
I never want to lose my faith, my hope, my trust
But if I lose any of these things
Lift me up and carry me
Because I never want to lose the heart of me
