Vonita

Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, I am now based in Sydney, Australia.

About me – I love writing poetry. It makes me happy. I even love reading poetry, it makes me happy too. I have since written a book. It is the passion of my heart.

During the day, I write code. It keeps me busy. And I have an Etsy shop too, yay!  https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/passionthroughpoetry

Vonita presents The Light
(my first ever poem)

Kindly put to music and performed by Maria Panova.

When all around is dark
And all you know is night
Feel the hope within
And move towards the light

When sadness overwhelms
And you have lost your sight
A few gentle steps
Moving towards the light

When wounds begin to heal
We sense that near delight
Stirs our waking heart
Embracing inner light

When happiness is found
And all is calm and bright
Ever keep on reaching
Onwards towards the light

  1. Hey there Newbie Spikey!
(for your info, a Spikey is the term for folk who are part of the clan known to be followers of Uncle Spike 🙂

I wanted to catch up and say “thank you… I really appreciate your ‘follow’ as I for one, know how many interesting and entertaining blogs are out there.”

Blogging since June 2013, my aim is to deliver an eclectic offering of posts, from my ‘point n shoot’ attempts at basic photography, to the sharing of my travel adventures over the decades, as well as day to day happenings here on the farm. Oh, plus a few observations, opinions and lighter-hearted stuff thrown in for good measure.

I normally keep to a couple of posts a day, maybe 3-4 at weekends if I have something special to share. But if you are at a loose end one day, maybe you’ll enjoy trawling through some of my older stuff too. I have added plenty of categories to help in said digging process.

Thanks again and hope you have a great day…

    1. Thank you, I love your poetry too, it always feels so humbling when reading others beautiful words! And then I remind myself I don’t need to be able to write like that because someone else can! All writing is unique and a gift for others to enjoy!

      1. I agree completely! I find comfort and inspiration in the writing of others because they put things into a new perspective, which tends to clarify things for me. I’m happy our paths crossed! 🙂

    1. Yes I am, but enlisted publisher-help, they have come back with a layout that is not resonating with me, so am now doing it myself, this is going to delay me somewhat! My husband introduced me to golden-ratio layout yesterday, so am busy applying that. I have a distributor lined up though, and the book will be in hardcover, paperback and 12 ebooks! Thank you for your comment, good meeting you! 🙂

      1. Thank you! My work load keeps on increasing and not diminishing. The end result is going to be beautiful though if it is the last thing I do, I may have to change the target to next December! Have now separated into three separate parts (it actually fits in quite nicely into three sections), and have to maybe enlist the services of a graphic designer to fine tune the layout!

  2. Just went through your ‘about’ note. You seem to be in the process of rediscovering yourself, and that too through poetry. Great idea to go for the blog ‘Passion through Poetry,.I’m sure you’ll discover how rejuvinating your tryst with poetry is going to be for you and for your followers. All the best!

    1. Thank you so much for your comments. I have discovered a talent I never knew I had, I haven’t studied literature so my poetry is all free verse and not following any convention, but I am finding it very therapeutic, I usually have very bad migraines a few times a month but since I’ve started writing about five weeks ago my headaches seem to have diminished. Don’t know if it is a coincidence or not! Also I’m using the writing to channel all my emotion inside so that it has a voice and can be released!

Thank you for reading and commenting.

  7. thanks for stopping by… My wife and I hope to visit Australia next year.

You know the challenge is to write a poem in code that compiles – that’s just for fun, but keep up the fine regular poems too.

  8. “So I wrote a poem….
…And now I cannot stop. I now think in poetry, I now think in rhyme. And I love! Because if I do not feel the love, it has no part of me.”
Amen, sister! Thanks for reading my poem this morning!

      2. you are welcome. I am not photographer, but I take a photo in mind before I click. Sometimes God give correct idea in mind quick. Yesterday I changed the header of home page and one lady commented that I put added many photos which is not good. After reading that comment, I just tried once again and created a better header. Do you like to check the header image of my home page?

    1. Thank you so much for your very kind words! I actually might decide to accept the award as it would be very rewarding to nominate some of the work I find inspiring (very conscious though of not wanting to leave any out), will have to action tomorrow, my time is now 1am. I am wearing my wedding dress in the photo above. The dress was an evening dress that came with a chiffon scarf, we transformed the scarf to attach to the dress to make chiffon sleeves. There are more recent pics of me in my post Marathon Cycle, taken last year. The one above is slightly dated, I’ve now been married for twelve years! Thank you once again for your kind words and the nomination 🙂

  13. hi,
I simple happy in reading your poems. Adding a pic is a good way to take attention for reading it. I admire your innate talent.
just a suggestion for formatting the poem content.
Some poems are 2 lines and then space for one line free, some poems are 3 lines and then space for one line free, and some poems are 4 lines and then space for one line free.
It would be good to follow 4 lines and then space for one line free. It helps in good reading and comfort for eyes.
