Kookaburra, kookaburra
What do you say to me
In the morning, dark and cold
You cackle your song at me
Out of slumber, out of sleep
You raise your voice at me
Laughing, mocking while I wake
Wrenching me from my dreams
Lovely exotic bird…can’t imagine being woken up by such a bird…we have blackbirds and sparrows! Nice poem and picture…even the name sounds exotic…lovely!

Thank you, they make such a noise in the mornings, it is a loud cackling sound! Not soft and sweet at all!

It’s strange how the sound of australian birds are so different to those in South Africa. I get woken up by loud cackling every morning!

Your ear gets accustomed to the native wildlife, Vonita, and wow, when that changes! Just say they’re laughing with you, not at you. 😉

They are sentinels. Recently walking one exploded in song through the mist. It was awe-inspiring.
