Surviving the roads of
Johannesburg, or Jozi as it is
Lovingly named, by those who
Would bravely call the city their home
Is no small accomplishment, where
Drivers exceed the speed limits at will
And potholes randomly occur
With no band-aid in sight
Here is a glimpse of the roads in the
City I called home until the day arrived
When I flew away
I remember all this, that is partly why I moved back home to Cape Town

Cape Town is beautiful, my maternal family is from Cape Town so we used to go there often. I was there again for a few nights in April, there is just something about the Cape Town air that really feeds my soul 🙂

I can assure you that when I leave SA for good one of the things that I’ll miss most is the roads. They are much better than many those of other African countries (although I’m not suggesting that the government shouldn’t do its job to improve them). If you see the potholes in my country you can cry.

I’m sure, the motorways are in good condition, it was just the lack of maintenance on Joburg roads that was so sad to see. Potholes not being fixed for the whole month that I was there (in April last year).

I take it traffic lights are somewhat scarce here?

There are traffic lights, but they are locally referred to as ‘robots’ 🙂

hahaha that’s colorful, considering it’s the people who obey the lights.

Lol, strange that language so commonly used in one country is totally foreign in another! 🙂

I can only imagine what they think of American idioms! :0

Most of the movies and tv sitcoms are American, so I suppose it’s not too strange 🙂

See, I didn’t know that! Interesting…my daughter’s teaching in China, and one of her Asian friend decided to get herself ‘westernized’ by watching Sex and the City, and goes around saying how sexy she is. My daughter says ‘We’ve ruined the world.’

I don’t enjoy objectification of women, and how prevalent it is across movies and music videos, but I guess it’s not the right forum 🙂
